The programme prepares graduates for advanced roles in academia, legal research, and higher education. Graduates may contribute through teaching, scholarly publication, supervision, legal research, and the development of new knowledge in specialised areas of law.

Legal Practice & Advisory

Graduates may strengthen their professional expertise for advanced legal practice and advisory roles, applying doctoral-level research and critical analysis to complex legal, regulatory, commercial, and institutional matters.

Policy & Regulatory Leadership

The programme equips graduates to contribute to legal and regulatory policy development, legislative research, governance, and evidence-based decision-making within government agencies, regulatory bodies, corporations, and professional organisations.

Legal Consulting & Specialist Roles

Graduates may pursue specialist consultancy and professional roles involving areas such as corporate law, Islamic law, commercial law, human rights, international law, intellectual property, dispute resolution, and other legal disciplines.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following academic requirements:

  • A recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Law or Shariah; and
  • A recognised Master’s Degree or equivalent qualification duly recognised by the Senate; or
  • Any other Master’s qualification recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Malaysia.

Applicants must also have a good command of written and spoken English.

English Language Proficiency (Additional Requirement for International Students)

International applicants are required to meet one of the following English language requirements:

  • TOEFL 600; or
  • Online TOEFL 100; or
  • IELTS 6.0; or
  • An equivalent recognised English language qualification.
